SEIU Local 99’s new Officers and Executive Board Members were sworn in on July 1, 2009 for a three year term. SEIU Executive Vice President Eliseo Medina administered the oath of office which states in part: “I pledge that I will work to the best of my ability to provide effective and responsible leadership and representation to the members, including organizing the unorganized workers within my jurisdiction. I agree to defend the principles of trade unionism; to work to improve the lives of working people; and to help elect pro-worker politicians. I will not knowingly wrong a member or see a member wronged if it is in my power to prevent it.”

“We have a heck of a struggle in front of us with the budget being the worst that we’ve ever experienced. We can only try to work together as one. This is not just Eddie’s job. This is just not my Executive Board’s job. It is all of our jobs,” said new President Edward Reed.
