SEIU Local 99 Officer & Executive Board 2012 Elections: Notification of Nomination Procedures

SEIU Local 99 will be holding elections for the Office of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Board Delegates in 2012.

In accordance with our union's Constitution & Bylaws, the following nomination procedures will be observed:

Prior to February 1, 2012 - The Executive Board shall appoint an Elections Committee consisting of a Chairperson and at least four (4) additional members. There shall be at least one member from each Industry Division on the Elections Committee. No member may serve on the Elections Committee if s/he is a candidate for office. If a neutral third party administrator is not engaged, the Elections Committee shall determine all questions of candidate eligibility, be in charge of the election process and the counting of ballots, the certification of results and decide any election protests.

February 1, 2012 - Beginning on February 1st, nominating petitions will be available between 8am and 5pm at the main SEIU Local 99 office located at 2724 W. 8th St. Los Angeles, CA 90005.

February 4, 2012 - a Candidate Initiation Meeting shall be held at Robert F. Kennedy Community of Schools located at 701 South Catalina St., Los Angeles, CA 90005, from 10am until 12pm for the purpose of picking-up nomination petitions and gathering signatures.

March 2, 2012 - Final day to turn in nominating petitions. Petitions must be returned by 5pm to the main SEIU Local 99 office located at 2724 W. 8th St. Los Angeles, CA 90005

Qualifications for Nominations and Nominating a Candidate

"Any member wishing to be a candidate for the Office of President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer must submit to the Chairperson of the Elections Committee a nominating petition signed by 100 members in good standing."

"Any member wishing to be a candidate for the Office of Industry Division Delegate may be nominated by submitting to the Chairperson of the Elections Committee, a nominating petitions signed by 25 members in good standing within the nominee's Industry Division."

In order to be eligible to nominate a candidate for Industry Division Executive Board Delegate you must be a member who is not in arrears in the payment of any installment of dues or assessments more than one hundred and twenty (120) days after their due date.

Constitution & Bylaws Article 12 - Elections, Section 2 - Eligibility for Local-wide Officers and Industry Division Executive Board Delegates, A. Eligibility

A person shall be eligible to be nominated and to serve as an elected Local Union Officer or Industry Division Executive Board Delegate who has been a member in continuous good standing in the Local Union for at least one (1) year immediately preceding the nomination and who has during all of that time paid the full dues required for the working members of the Local union within each month when due.  However, if any of its bargaining units or Industry Divisions has not been in existence the time herein required, a candiate for office must have been a member in continuous good standing for the entire time since affiliation, creation of new Industry Division or first contract.

SEIU Local 99 llevara a cabo elecciones para los oficios de Presidente, Vicepresidente, Secretario, Tesorero, y Delegado de Division Industrial en 2012.

De acuerdo con la Constitucion y Reglamentos de nuestra union, los siguientes procedimientos de nominacion seran observados:

Antes del 1 de Febrero del 2012 - La Mesa Ejecutiva designara un Comite de Elecciones consistiendo de un Presidente y al minimo cuatro (4) miembros adicionales. Debera haber cuando menos un miembro de cada una de las Divisiones Industriales. Ningun miembro debera fungir en el Comite Electoral si el/ella es candidato para un cargo. Si un tercer partido administrador neutral no es contratado, el Comite de Elecciones determinara todas las dudas sobre la elegibilidad y estara a cargo del proceso de la eleccion y de contar las boletas, de la certificacion de los resultados y de la decision acerca de cualquiera de las protestas en las elecciones.

1 de Febrero del 2012 - Comenzando el 1 de Febrero peticiones de nominacion estaran disponibles entre las 8am y las 5pm en la oficina central de SEIU Local 99 localizada en el 2724 W. 8th St., Los Angeles, CA 90005.

4 de febrero del 2012 - Una junta de iniciacion de candidatura se llevara a cabo en Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools localizado en el 701 S. Catalina St., Los Angeles, CA 90005, de las 10am a las 12pm, con el proposito de obtener peticiones de nominacion y colectar firmas.

2 de Marzo del 2012 - Ultimo dia para entregar peticiones de nominacion. Las peticiones deben ser entregadas para las 5pm en la oficina central de SEIU Local 99 localizada en el 2724 W. 8th St. Los Angeles, CA 90005.

Calificaciones para Nominaciones y para Nominar a Candidatos

"Cualquier miembro que desee ser candidato para el cargo de Presidente, Vicepresidente, Secretario, o Tesorero puede ser nominado entregando al Presidente del Comite Electoral, una peticion nominativa firmada por cien (100) Miembros acreditados."  (Constitucion y Reglamentos Articulo 12 - Elecciones, Seccion 1 - Nominaciones, A. "Cualquier miembro que desee ser candidato para el cargo de Delegado Industrial podra ser nominado si entrega al Presidente del Comite Electoral, una peticion firmada por veinticinco (25) miembros acreditados dentro de la Division Industrial del nominado."

Para ser elegible de nominar a un/a candidato/a para Delegado de Division Industrial de la Mesa Ejecutiva usted no puede encontrarse rezagado en el pago de cualquier cuota u obligacion por mas de ciento veinte (120) dias despues de su fecha de vencimiento.

Constitucion y Reglamento Articulo 12 - Elecciones, Seccion 2.A - Elegibilidad para Funcionarios del Ambito Local y para Delegados del Consejo Ejecutivo de la Division Industrial - (A) Elegibilidad

Una persona sera elegible para ser nominada y fungir en un cargo como Autoridad electa de Union Local o Delegado del Consejo Ejecutivo de la Division Industrial cuando haya sido miembro acreditado en la Union Local cuando menos por un ano (1) previo inmediato a la nominacion y durante todo ese tiempo haya pagado las cuotas completas requieridas para los miembros trabajadores de la Union Local de todos los meses que correspondan. Sin embargo, si cualquiera de sus unidades negociadoras o Divisiones Industriales no hubieran existido en algun momento del lapso aqui requerido, el candidato al cargo debera haber sido miembro acreditado durante la totalidad del tiempo desde su afiliacion, la creacion de una nueva Division Industrial o desde su primer contrato
