Early Childhood Development a HUGE Part of California’s Economy According to UC Berkley Report
A new report reaffirmed what child care providers like us have been saying
for years: the services we provide are a huge part of the economy and budget
cuts to child care funding hurt not only children and families but also the
economic health of our entire state.
The report can be found HERE.
According to the report, “The industry not only benefits the children who
receive care, but also strengthens the California economy as a whole, which is
especially important during this time in which California is struggling with
high unemployment and a weak economic recovery.”
The report also says that for every dollar California invests on early
childhood care, the state's economy gets back somewhere between $2.69 and
$7.16. Not only that, but the parents who rely on our services contribute $26.4
billion to the California economy based on their annual earnings.
As we move forward in our efforts to promote quality child care and restore the
funding that we’ve seen slashed year after year, we can refer lawmakers to this
independent study that backs our claims.
