Economic Stimulus Makes Early Ed a Priority
President Obama delivered on his campaign promises with the February 2009 economic stimulus package that included increased funding for early education:
$2 billion in funding for the Child Care Development Block Grant to provide child care to an additional 300,000 children
$2.1 billion in Head Start funding to provide Head Start services to an additional 110,000 children
$500 million for IDEA Infants & Families Programs which provide special education services to infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families
$13 billion for the federal Title I Program which provides funding to improve education for disadvantaged youngsters, and is an important source of federal funding for pre-kindergarten education.
