Labor Board Finds Orange County Head Start Guilty of Election Tampering
The National Labor Relations Board found that Orange County Head Start (OCHS) interfered with an election to determine whether or not members would retain their union representation. Local 99 filed charges to protest OCHS’s intimidation and aggressive misinformation campaign. These unlawful actions were clearly meant to influence the outcome of the election. Leading up to the June 4th and 5th election, employees reported mandatory anti-union meetings and intimidation. The most egregious was a letter sent by management claiming the union had no impact on their wages, benefits and rights on the job. The NLRB found this claim to be completely false and recommended that the previously-held election be overturned and a new election be conducted.
