Apprentice Teacher Program

Are you interested in becoming a Secondary Special Ed or a Mathematics Teacher?

LAUSD and California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) have entered into a partnership to implement the Los Angeles Apprentice Teacher Program, an innovative pathway to teaching. Apprentices will work in the classroom under the supervision of a Master Teacher as part of a cohort at CSULA.

The L.A. - Apprentice Teacher Program Offers:
  • $3,000 annual scholarship for each year of participation as an Apprentice
  • Outstanding undergraduate and credential preparation
  • BA in Urban Learning or Mathematics
  • Support and Guidance of a Master Teacher
  • Paid Apprentice positions
  • University coursework integrated with on-the-job experience
  • Early Entry Teacher Contract with LAUSD
  • Assistance with financial aid applications including grants
  • Preparation for state-mandated exams

Selection Requirements:
  • Interested in teaching Special Education or Mathematics (Candidates not required to be mathematics majors)
  • Completion of general education requirements and eligible for enrollment at junior status at CSULA (Need not be currently enrolled at CSULA)
  • A minimum 2.75 grade point average
  • Commitment to working as an Apprentice Teacher

Program Requirements
  • Pursuing an Educational Specialist Credential or a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Foundational Level Mathematics
  • Work as a credentialed teacher for LAUSD at a high needs school for each year of participation in the program.
