Members go to Sacramento to fight for student services!

Governor Brown is proposing to balance the state budget by dismantling “categorical” funding. Categorical funds pay for classified employees' jobs, such as cafeteria services, early education, child care, transportation, after-school programs, and adult education.  SEIU Local 99 members have been traveling to Sacramento to lobby legislators to preserve categorical funding.

Candidates Walk a Day in Our Shoes

To win our endorsement, we want candidates to see what it's like to do the hard work that we do every day. Everyone from President Obama to local school board candidates have participated in order to be considered for our support.

Walking a day in our shoes doesn't guarantee our endorsement, but it qualifies a candidate to be considered when we have our Town Hall meetings and vote on which candidates will get our support.

Why do we need to give to COPE?

Corporations and other “Big Money” players donate millions of dollars to political causes that advance their agenda. How can we compete with that? Individually, we can’t. But collectively, yes we can! We do this through our COPE (Committee on Political Education) funds.

How does Local 99’s endorsement process work?

As public employees, our political involvement is very important. Our job security, working conditions, and benefits are decided by elected officials. With our strong, united voice, we can hold politicians accountable at every level of government. We show this united strength in our endorsement process.
