Members Endorse Santa Monica-Malibu School Board Candidates
Ben Allen and Maria Leon-Vazquez!
Six of the seven candidates running for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board were present at Local 99 on August 12 for a Town Hall Meeting. Members interviewed and heard directly from the candidates on matters that impact us. After reviewing their comments and record, Local 99 SMMUSD members voted to endorse Maria Leon-Vazquez and Ben Allen.
"We feel that Maria Leon-Vazquez connects with our issues and we’re happy with how she has represented education workers on the School Board. Ms. Leon-Vazquez has consistently championed labor in the City of Santa Monica and in the SMMUSD community. She’s been a long-time supporter of the School Board’s Living Wage Resolution in Santa Monica. Ben Allen is a product of the Santa Monica-Malibu School District and we are pleased to see him return his talents to SMMUSD. Mr. Allen has repeatedly dedicated his time to give service to our schools, both officially, such as serving on committees
