There’s good news to report on our LAUSD contract negotiations. This is Max Arias, SEIU Local 99 Executive Director and Chief Negotiator. Our Bargaining Team met with the District on Wednesday, May 24. We made some significant progress on language around labor management committees. It gives us a much stronger ability to address and resolve workplace issues directly with LAUSD administrators.

We also had a great vigil and rally in front of LAUSD Headquarters on May 25. Check out the photos here. More than 100 members chanted, spoke out and made sure the District heard our demands for a contract that guarantees:

  • Fair wages so we can raise our families with dignity and stability
  • Increased staffing for better services to students and parents
  • Dignity and respect for everyone on campus
  • More education and training opportunities to grow more teachers from our local communities, stop the subcontracting of jobs in Special Education and ensure more dedicated workers can advance their careers in the District

To win these demands, we’ve got to make our voices heard. Are you ready?

We had a great show of our unity in action at our vigil.

Next, let’s all attend the school board meeting on Tuesday, June 13th. Plan to be at LAUSD Headquarters at 333 S. Beaudry Ave in L.A. at 11am. Let’s speak out about why we need a strong contract that will lift our schools and raise our communities. Together, we can!
