We’re one step closer to making lasting change for California schools and communities. Join us virtually to celebrate June 9-10.

The Schools & Communities First Initiative has officially qualified for the November ballot!

This comes after the campaign had submitted a historic 1.7 million signatures of support, an effort powered by SEIU Local 99 members along with social justice, faith-based, education, other labor and philanthropic organizations, and tens of thousands of volunteers, endorsers, and supporters throughout California.

This effort to reclaim $ 12 billion every year for K-14 public education, critical local services and essential workers by closing corporate tax loopholes comes at a time of unprecedented hardship, and renewed calls to invest in our communities as a step toward achieving racial and economic equity throughout California.

With this initiative, we can invest locally and in essential workers like public school workers, first responders and public health nurses who are all so critical to recovering from this crisis – while protecting homeowners and renters, small businesses, and agriculture. Simply put, corporations must pay their fair share. We can’t balance the budget on the backs of school workers, child care providers and other essential workers.

We’re one step closer to making lasting change for California schools and communities.
