On January 21, providers – including members of SEIU Local 99/Child Care Providers United – met with the State of CA to negotiate over immediate COVID-19 relief. Members were ready to continue negotiations to ensure providers can keep caring for the children of essential workers and assisting students during distance learning.
But the state refused to negotiate. They rejected providers’ proposals and said they would get back to us in the spring. What? This can’t wait. As the virus continues to surge in our communities, families need child care and providers need relief to stay healthy and open.
Call Governor Gavin Newsom between 9am-5pm at 1-844-243-9670
Tell him to negotiate with providers now!
Here is a sample script you can use:
“Governor Newsom, my name is _______ and I live in _____ County. I am a (job title) with (employer or school district).
Family child care providers and the families they serve need you to negotiate with Child Care Providers United members over what they need to stay healthy and open during COVID-19.
Come to the bargaining table NOW. Stop refusing to support and stabilize child care for providers and parents.”
We need to ring the alarm!! After you make your call, make sure that five other SEIU Local 99 members, family and friends also make their call to the governor. This is URGENT. It will take all of us to make sure our voice is heard.
