Our voices are being heard and we need to continue to stand strong to win respect for essential workers. At the February 18 Santa Monica Malibu Unified (SMMUSD) school board meeting, several members spoke passionately and forcefully about the need to ensure safety and recognition for those on the frontlines.

SEIU Local 99 Member Cesar Herrera told the board, “The teachers are taken care of; the office staff is taken care of; the board members are taken care of; what about us? We have been in the trenches, and have been left in the dark.”

SMMUSD Board President said he is willing to “start the conversation.” Read the Santa Monica Daily Press article.
