For SEIU Local 99 members, this year can best be summed up in one word: resilience.

Stretching into another year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we, yet again, rose to the challenge, continuing the arduous, but necessary work of reopening our schools and helping students feel a sense of normalcy again; and continuing to provide quality care for the children of other essential workers.

Together, we fought for increased workplace safety for all, and with the rollout of vaccine mandates, fairness and respect in the process.

We also fought to be recognized for our essential work with well-deserved pay increases across many of our bargaining units, and as the country finally recognized that child care is essential to our economic recovery, providers made history winning their first contract with the State of California .

As we look back on 2021, we can say with confidence and pride that — in the face of adversity — we continued to make quality education possible.

Here’s to continued unity, strength, and resilience in 2022!
