Last month we reached an agreement with LUSD that recognizes SEIU Local 99 members’ essential work during COVID-19. We have and will continue to negotiate agreements that protect workers and our communities.

Here are the highlights of the agreement:

Sick leave & vacation days will not be used for COVID-19 related absences:

  • We got the district to agree to 10 additional leave days per employee from September 30, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Days used before September 30, 2021, will not be replenished.
  • SEIU members led the way to push for an extension of California’s paid supplemental sick leave. Effective January 1, 2022, through September 30, 2022. The district will comply with SB 114 and provide up to 80 hours of additional leave for qualifying COVID-19 reasons.

Stipend:

  • We got the district to agree to provide all members with a one-time 7% bonus on their yearly salary as a recognition of the work performed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Floating Holidays:

  • Any and all unused Floating holidays from 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 school year will be carried over to the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

Hero Pay:

  • We got the district to agree to continue to discuss additional compensation to unit members required to report to worksites. If the District agrees to any additional compensation with any other Bargaining unit, the District shall offer the same additional compensation to the SEIU Bargaining unit.

We’ll be moving into full contract negotiations soon.
