View Your SMMUSD Bargaining Survey Results

This month, members shared their thoughts on improving wages, benefits, and working conditions at SMMUSD by filling out the bargaining survey.

Here are some highlights of your responses:

  • To avoid high living costs in the Santa Monica/Malibu most SEIU Local 99 members commute up to an hour one way to get to their worksite.
  • Low wages have resulted in most members working a second job to pay bills.
  • Many workers have been asked to take on additional tasks/responsibilities with no additional compensation.
  • Schools have not invested enough in cleaning and maintenance to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Your responses show that SMMUSD must do more to value and reward the experience and commitment of classified school workers. The results of this survey will also help our bargaining team set priorities for full contract negotiations.
