Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Extended by State Until September 30, 2022

SEIU members advocated for the state’s extension of supplemental paid sick leave for COVID-19 related illness. On February 22, 2022 Governor Gavin Newsom signed the extension into law retroactive to January 1, 2022 and expiring on September 30, 2022. This means that if you need to miss work due because you contract COVID or have to care for a family member in your household with COVID, you do not have to use the sick days, vacation time or other paid leave you have accumulated with the district. If you had to quarantine or take time off to care for a household family member starting in January 1, 2022 before the law went into effect, you can still claim the supplemental paid sick leave and have your sick days or other benefitted time-off restored.
