Our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team met with LAUSD on May 25, 2022 for another round of contract negotiations. We’ve been in bargaining with the district for over a month. So far, we have presented LAUSD with proposals demanding:

  • Dignity and respect on the job. No one should be mistreated or harassed by their supervisor. We’re demanding the right to file a formal grievance if we are disrespected.
  • Increased work hours. Every worker should work 8 hours if they choose. And SEIU Local 99 members should be given the opportunity to work additional hours before the district subcontracts work to private agencies.
  • Equitable and significant wage increases that will reward our vital and essential work.

It’s time to turn-out and take action! The district has not responded to any of our proposals. We’ve got to stand with our bargaining team and take unified action to make sure we’re heard. Last week, SEIU Local 99 members kicked-off a series of actions for classified employees week. We purpled-up, marched in front of schools, we got loud!  Take a look at some photos. And we’re just getting started. Let’s keep it up so the district knows we’re serious. Take one of these actions:

  • Mask-up Mondays: Wear a purple face mask at work.
  • Tag Me Tuesdays: Post photos on your social media in solidarity with classified workers.  Use the hashtag #EssentialAlways
  • Purple-Up Wednesday: Wear your SEIU Local 99 t-shirt or any purple clothing.
  • Throwback Thursday – Wear classic Local 99 gear or dress in Purple with a classic theme. #TBT
  • Fired-Up Friday – Wear a Local 99 Sticker and/or Button at your worksite. Join worksite pickets before school, after school, or during breaks.
  • Show-Up Saturday – to help elect school board members who will stand with us for good jobs and quality schools. More info here.
