UPDATE: September 13, 2022

On Wednesday, September 14 and Thursday, September 15, 2022, all employees will receive final reminders regarding the multi-factor authentication requirement for accessing email and other district applications outside of the office or school site.

In order to prevent system overload, all employees in Local Districts Northeast, West, and Central, in both offices and school sites, will need to complete the activation of their multi-factor authentication by Thursday, September 15 at 4 PM.

All employees in Local Districts Northwest, East, and South, in both offices and school sites, as well as any remaining Central Office staff who have not already done so, will need to complete the activation of their multi-factor authentication by Friday, September 16 at 4 PM.

Employees will be provided the opportunity to activate their MFA during their assigned work hours. The district has stated that it is providing written job aids and a pre-recorded webinar video available to assist employees. Employees who need assistance may also call the hotline at 213-443-1300.

The Los Angeles Unified School District announced on September 6, 2022, that there was a cyber-attack on its Information Technology systems. The immediate impact is that access to email, computer systems and applications may be disrupted. The district has set-up these protocols for employees and students to change passwords and log-in to the LAUSD systems.

  1. Go to mylogin.lausd.net
  2. Select employee or student
  3. Select forgot/reset your password
  4. Agree to Responsible Use Policy
  5. Enter information requested
  6. Enter your new password

The district has also stated that “Based on a preliminary analysis of critical business systems, employee healthcare and payroll are not impacted, nor has the cyber incident impacted safety and emergency mechanisms in place at schools.” However, if you experience any issues or have questions, contact the district hotline at 213-443-1300. If the issues cannot be addressed, please contact SEIU Local 99 by completing this inquiry form or calling our Member Resource Center at 213-637-0296.

To address the issue of cyber-security in the long term, the district has stated that they will set-up a task force to review the current IT operation and have additional staff and resources available. SEIU Local 99 members are part of the IT Team at LAUSD and share in the concern over cyber-security. We look forward to working with the district to be part of discussions and plans to improve the Information Technology systems at LAUSD.
