The first step to winning a strong contract is electing our MAOF Negotiations Team. Individuals elected to the negotiations team will develop proposals based on SEIU Local 99 member priorities identified in the bargaining survey and meet to negotiate with MAOF representatives in October.

Breakdown of SEIU Local 99’s team:

There are 7 available seats up for election based on job classification/title, as follows:

  • EHS Teacher
  • HS Teacher
  • State Preschool Teacher
  • Teacher Assistant  (from any program)
  • Custodian
  • Nutrition Aide/Homemaker
  • FSA/ parent outreach/enrollment

Nomination and Election Process:
The deadline to submit nominations for members to run for a seat on the negotiations team, or nominate themselves, was September 15.  New nominations are no longer being accepted. Here is the list of nominees.

Nominees are required to submit a Petition of Support, signed by at least 10 Local 99 members, 5 of which must be members of your same job classification.


Friday, September 16th – Last day to submit biography and photo. Eligible members will be contacted to confirm acceptance of their nomination. Nominees should submit their photo and a biography/statement on why they want to be on the negotiations team. The statements and photos will be posted on SEIU Local 99’s website.

Thursday, September 22nd – Last day to gather signatures. Nominees collect signatures from other MAOF members, using the official “Petition of Support.” Only MAOF union members’ signatures will be counted. Each member can sign the petition for as many nominees as they want.

Thursday, September 29th – Election Day!  For those seats that have more than one (1) candidate running for that seat, we will have an election

Role/responsibility of the negotiations team:

Establish the priorities for bargaining based on the survey responses given by MAOF members.
(examples: increase in wages, improvement to working conditions, etc).

Bargain and meet to negotiate with MAOF representatives.

Candidate Criteria:

Anyone interested in being a part of the negotiations team must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Union member, if you’re not yet a member, you can sign-up online HERE 
  • Have a passion for and commitment to building toward SEIU Local 99’s Early Care and Education Division Vision
  • Have knowledge of coworkers’ issues, child care system, and/or be willing to learn
  • Commit to training on union bargaining and building power to win
  • Be a good communicator: Communicate to members and listen to what their needs are
  • Join both daytime and/or evening meetings in person and/or via Zoom, both with MAOF and to prep/report back to leaders and members.
  • Share a short biography/statement about why you would like to be a part of the negotiations team.
