General Election 2022: We Made Our Voices Heard!
November 9, 2022 – Votes are still being counted and the final results of key races may take some time. However, one thing is clear in this year’s General Election – SEIU Local 99 members made our voices heard.
Over the last several months, members knocked on thousands of doors and made hundreds of phone calls to mobilize voters. We made sure that voters and candidates understood that in our schools, in community colleges and in early learning and child care – we are essential to education. These are the elected officials who will make decisions about our jobs and the quality of public education – and they heard us!
As we wait for the final tally, we can be proud of the work we accomplished in making politics work for working people.
Here’s where we stand so far on races where SEIU Local 99 members endorsed candidates:
Los Angeles Unified School District – This race is still too close to call for the two candidates we endorsed:
- Maria Brenes (District 2, Eastisde)
- Kelly Gonez (District 6 – East San Fernando Valley)
Los Angeles Community College District – All of the candidates endorsed by SEIU99 members have won their seats.
- Gabriel Buelna (Seat 6)
- Sara Hernandez (Seat 4)
- Kelsy Iino (Seat 7)
- Steven Veres (Seat 2)
Ventura County Community College District – This race is still too close to call for the candidate we endorsed:
- Jessica Weihe (Area 2)
