Our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team at Compton Unified remains in negotiations with the district. The key issue the bargaining team is focusing is on wages, and we all must continue to fight for the fair increases we deserve. The district proposed to add 1% of the full monies into benefits, but with the current spike in costs, a 1% would not alleviate the amount significant enough to make a dent into the out-of-pocket cost members would have to pay. This is not FAIR to members.
Currently, most of our bargaining unit members do not use CUSD medical plans due to being expensive. We know that there will be a higher Cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) for next year, so the bargaining team has committed to putting a higher percentage toward benefits to start chipping away at the high rates. We can get the contract we deserve, by remaining united and engaged. Members who participated in the bargaining survey helped the bargaining team to further understand current issues.
The team is scheduled to meet next Tuesday, September 19, 2023, for our pre-meeting with the employer. Our next bargaining session will be Friday, September 22, 2023. Additional updates will be provided to the team.
