
Take the Lead: Be a Part of the LAUSD Bargaining Team and/or Labor Management Committees – Call for Nominations
Take the lead to continue to improve jobs and student services at LAUSD. Here are two opportunities to make your voice heard on our next contract and in addressing worksite issues.
Join a Labor Management Committee (LMC)
These committees are made-up of members who meet regularly with school district administrators to find solutions to worksite problems, improve working conditions, and improve the student services we provide. Members of the team receive training, receive union leave from work, and are paid their regular wages during times when they must miss work in order to participate in Labor Management Committee meetings.
There are 10 Labor Management Committees representing various departments at LAUSD.
Bus Drivers – 7 seats (one is an alternate)
Early Education – 5 seats
Food Services – 5 seats
Information Technology – 5 seats
Maintenance & Operations – 5 seats
Mechanics – 6 seats
Procurement – 7 seats (one is an alternate)
Special Education – 5 seats
Unit F (Teacher Assistants) – 5 seats
Unit G (Community Representatives, School Supervision Aides, Playground Supervisors, Workers & Helpers) – 5 seats
Nomination Process for Labor Management Committees
To be nominated for a seat on a Labor Management Committee, any member in good standing must submit a Nomination Form, signed by at least 25 SEIU Local 99 members from their own LMC classification(s) or 25% of members in their classification(s), whichever is smaller.
The deadline to submit the completed Nomination Form is Monday, October 16, 2023 at 5pm. Prior to October 16, petitions may be turned into an SEIU Local 99 Organizer or at SEIU Local 99’s main office (3530 Wilshire Blvd. #1800, Los Angeles, CA 90010) Monday through Friday between 8am-5pm. Petitions may also be scanned or photographed and sent to raguilar@seiu99.org or your SEIU Local 99 organizer.
Members will be notified if they have submitted sufficient petition signatures to qualify for the Labor Management Team election within 48-hours of submitting their petitions. If members do not submit enough qualifying signatures, they will have until October 16 at 5pm to resubmit the petition with the additional signatures needed to complete the required 25 signatures or signatures by 25% of the bargaining unit. Members in contested elections will be notified by October 30, 2023. Contested means that there will be a vote between all members within your classification to determine who will win the seat and the second highest will be an alternate.

Be a part of our Contract Bargaining Team
Our bargaining team reviews input from members, develops contract proposals and negotiates directly with the employer. Members on the bargaining team are on the frontlines of negotiations and are required to attend planning meetings, bargaining sessions and other activities to ensure we win a strong contract. Members of the team receive training, receive union leave from work, and are paid their regular wages during times when they must miss work in order to participate in bargaining.
There are 24 available seats up for election, as follows:
Unit B (Special Education Assistants, Instructional Aides) = 9 seats
Unit C (Food Services, Maintenance & Operations,, Procurement, Transportation)= 9 seats
Unit F (Teacher Assistants)= 2 seats
Unit G (Community Representatives, After School Program Workers) = 4 seats

Election Process for Bargaining Team and Labor-Management Committees
Only SEIU Local 99 members in good standing are eligible to participate in the nomination and election process for the Bargaining Team and Labor Management Committees. Membership will be verified for all nominees and members signing petitions.
An election to fill contested seats on the Labor Management Committees and Bargaining Team will be held online starting Wednesday, November 1 through Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Members will also have the opportunity to vote in-person on November 18 from 9am-10am at SEIU Local 99’s Leadership Summit & Industry Division Meeting held at the Bonaventure Hotel 404 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90071. Results of the elections will be announced at the Leadership Summit & Industry Division Meeting.
