Minimum Wage Retro Pay, Working Out of Class, Other Issues Addressed in Latest Contract Bargaining with SMMUSD

Our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team met with Santa Monica Malibu Unified management on November 30 and December 1 to continue contract negotiations. 

We reached a mutual agreement (pending member ratification) to create a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to address the working out of class concerns within the maintenance and operations division.

The district also agreed to pay appropriate retro pay to members who are not currently being paid the minimum wage that went into effect on July 1, 2023 when the new hourly rate took effect. There are currently at least 23 members identified who are not being paid the minimum wage.  

Finally, our team re-opened negotiations over release time for the Chief Steward and the Local’s cost of paying (50%) of the total compensation for the Chief Steward.
