Early Retirement Incentive Now Available for Eligible Members Working at Santa Monica Malibu Unified

The Santa Monica Malibu Unified board voted to implement an early retirement plan for all employees working at the district. Eligibility requirements are outlined in the resolution HERE & below:

  • Employee must be a Certificated, Certificated Child Development, Certificated Management, Classified, Classified Management, or Confidential employee of the District.
  • Employee must be at least 55 years of age by June 30, 2024 for Window 1 and June 30, 2025 for Window 2.
  • Employee must have at least five (5) years of service with the District by June 30, 2024 for Window 1 and June 30, 2025 for Window 2. Employees must be an active employee as of the date the plan is adopted by the board (February 1, 2024.)
  • Employee must be eligible to retire from CalSTRS or CalPERS.
  • Employee must retire or resign from the District by June 30, 2024 for Window 1 and June 30, 2025 for Window 2.
  • Employee must submit a Separation Form indicating Retirement/Resignation and Supplemental Employee Retirement Plan (SERP) Enrollment Packet by April 12, 2024 for Window 1.
  • Employee must submit a Separation Form indicating Retirement/Resignation and SERP Enrollment Packet by December 6, 2024 for Window 2.

Eligible employees will be notified by the district about group session opportunities where they can get more information and sign-up for individual counseling for enrollment with one of the SERP counselors.
