Storm Update: Safety and Working Conditions at LAUSD

SEIU Local 99 is in communication with LAUSD regarding any changes to working conditions that may be necessary due to the current storm. As classified school employees, SEIU Local 99 members are on the front lines of ensuring a clean, safe, and supportive learning environment for students and staff and this is especially critical during unpredictable weather situations.

At this time, LAUSD has determined that schools will remain open. The only exception is Vinedale Elementary School which is in the area where Los Angeles County has issued evacuation orders. Workers and students at Vinedale Elementary are being asked to report to an alternative school site, Glenwood Elementary.

Regardless of where you work, safety is the priority. Please give yourself extra time for your commute and use extreme caution. If conditions become unsafe commuting to work due to the weather conditions in your area or conditions become unsafe at your school or worksite, document it, report it to your supervisor, and notify your supervisor that you will be taking personal necessity leave because it is unsafe for you to report to work.  No one should lose pay due to the unsafe conditions created by the storm.

We know weather conditions can change quickly and we will continue to monitor the situation and be in contact with LAUSD regarding its impact on SEIU Local 99 members.

If you have any questions, please contact SEIU Local 99’s Member Resource Center at 213-637-0296 Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm or complete this online inquiry form.
