Contract Negotiations Move Forward at Compton Unified

Members Counter Strong 1% Grievance Proposal to Compton Unified

Members on our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team met with Compton Unified on Friday, March 1st, 2024 for another round of contract negotiations. Bargaining team members went on the offensive and presented demands that included higher wages and increased money for medical benefits.

Members met again with Compton Unified representatives on March 14, 2024 where the district provided an overtly disrespectful offer to members. The counter offer was only 5%! Lower than what was presented to other unions at Compton Unified. The employer stated they weren’t interested in negotiating stipends for the work that is done by unit members.

THIS WILL NOT STAND! Bargaining team members were clearly upset and voiced their disagreement. Compton Unified is blatantly disrespecting the community with the offer presented to unit members we need to fight back!

Let’s support our bargaining team by standing UNION STRONG! Our next negotiations is scheduled for April 11th, 2024, but our bargaining team will caucus beforehand on March 27th, 2024 before spring break to strategize.

Remember, a strong contract is not just won at the negotiations table. Let’s continue to purple-up and organize to show CUSD that we’re united for a strong contract.

Members agree on 1% differential counter proposal

Union members took action and filed a grievance in relation to the pay differential between supervisor and subordinate. As specified in our contract, there must be a 1% pay difference between the supervising employee and the employee they are supervising.

Members voted between two options for a counter proposal involving a tier rate payout or a flat rate payout. Members unanimously voted for a flat rate payout proposal offer that was presented to Compton Unified representatives. More progress to come, stay tuned.
