SEIU Local 99 Members Make Progress in Negotiations with Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD)!

Vote Ratification Results - Members Vote Overwhelmingly to Accept Two Wellness Days

Members on our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team at LACCD met with the district for our second negotiations session on Monday, March 25th. The bargaining team allowed the district to review each of the proposals that were submitted to members at our last negotiations session on February 26th.

Proposals Submitted by the District include:

  • Leaves of Absence
  • Transfer & Shift Change
  • Performance Evaluation Procedures
  • Holidays
  • Health & Warfare
  • Grievance Procedures

In addition to proposals being reviewed, the bargaining team allowed for the district to go over their budget and finances to attempt to justify their counter proposal to our initial wage offer.

Our bargaining team questioned the district intensely to gain a better understanding of the district’s proposal to help prepare our counter offer for the next negotiations session.

SEIU Local 99 members from LA Trade Tech College actively participated in this past negotiations by attending and observing bargaining between our negotiations team and the district. Members expressed gratitude by being able to attend the negotiations session.

Our bargaining team received information from the district regarding proposals and will use that information to assist them in preparing a counter offer. Our bargaining team will meet internally on April 11th to discuss counter proposals and strategies.

Vote Results: 98% say “Yes” – Two Wellness Days Effective Immediately

A tentative agreement on wellness days was reached with LACCD on March 25th. Our bargaining team was able to win additional wellness days for SEIU Local 99 members at LACCD resulting in two additional wellness days in exchange for 4 hours holiday pay that members currently can use for the Friday of Spring Break. 

As a reminder, for members wanting to utilize a wellness day for Friday April 5th of Spring Break, a written request must be made by no later than Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 to their supervisors. 

For reference, these wellness days can be used at any time and can not be denied if a written request is made to your supervisor at least 2 days in advance from the day you would like to use it.

Additionally, members will have the right to Genocide Remembrance Day on April 24th. We stood strong and won extra paid time off for members who didn’t have these days previously.

Voting took place online from March 28 – April 1. Only SEIU Local 99 members in good-standing voted. 

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • Two Wellness Days that can be used at any time with 2 days prior written request to supervisor
  • Right to Genocide Remembrance Day
