SEIU Local 99 Members Make Progress, We are fighting for a fair and equitable Tentative Agreement with the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD)!

Action Recap: Members Spoke up & Represented at LACCD Board of Trustees meeting for increases!

Members of our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team at LACCD met with the district for a fourth time to negotiate on May 3. Significant progress was made where members secured a tentative agreement (TA) on two articles ensuring more money for work boots, increased tuition reimbursement, and memorialized our essential worker designation for the work SEIU Local 99 members contribute to all of the colleges and facilities throughout the district.

We reached a tentative agreement on increasing the amount for safety boots/shoes from $160 to $300 and includes the right to be reimbursed for money spent to repair your safety boots/shoes. We also reached a tentative agreement to increase the amount for tuition reimbursement from $2000 to $4000, and more recognition for SEIU Local 99 members being designated as essential workers for the work we do!

Making Noise at the Board of Trustees Meeting May 1st 

SEIU Local 99 member Chris Ozann, Custodian at LA SouthWest College & Bargaining Team member sounds the alarm to the Board of Trustees in informing them of our displeasure with the progress surrounding wages in negotiations, “We are here to voice our strong dissatisfaction with the way we are being treated within the district. We are frontline workers.” Chris Ozann , a Custodian at Southwest College told the LACCD board of trustees.”

Many other members stood up to speak up with their discontentment around low wages, bargaining team leader Lawrence Shepard, Custodian at LA City College announces, “When will our work become a priority? We Custodians are essential, yet we are struggling with higher prices for food, gas, and basic needs. That is unacceptable.” 

Including bargaining team member Joseph Ayala, Gardner at Harbor College, he was responsible for providing an exemplary field up to NCAA standards for the college Baseball team at Harbor improving field conditions, “Just like DR DORADO entrusted his Grounds staff to turn things around on those Fields. I’m asking this Board of Trustees to…ENTRUST US ENOUGH TO REWARDS US WITH LIVING WAGES.”

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for Friday, May 17th, 2024 at the SEIU Local 99 Office. Let’s continue to push forward with a united message: #LivingWagesNow
