SEIU Local 99 Members Fighting for Equity at the Los Angeles Community College District

Action Recap: Members demand that the LACCD Board of Trustees Ensure Living Wages Now!

Members of our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team at LACCD have made progress on many key issues, but the district has been dragging its feet on negotiations over wage increases and have delayed bargaining until June 27th.

By delaying negotiations, LACCD is forcing members to wait for overdue wage increases as they struggle against the high costs of living, rent, groceries, & inflation.

This is the message that members of our bargaining team took directly to the LACCD Board of Trustees at their meeting on June 12. “The cost of living continues to rise and our employees are feeling the impact. They have shown unwavering commitment to their roles and to the students they serve. And it’s only fair they receive the compensation that’s been promised to them,” Joseph Ayala, a Gardener at Harbor College and member of our Local 99 bargaining team told the board.

SEIU Local 99 Chief Negotiator Manny Rangel spoke volumes by dropping the hard truths to the LACCD Board of Trustees, “Our negotiations need to be settled as soon as possible. We represent the lowest paid workers at LACCD, and they need their money now!”
