We Move the State to Increase 2025 Summer Bridge Funds

Great News! SEIU Local 99 members have continued to speak out to ensure the Governor and state legislators understand the need to improve funding for the summer bridge program (also called the Classified School and Community College Employee Summer Assistance Program).

We moved them! As a result of our work, the state will increase the payment match-back for members who participated in the program for summer 2025. The match-back amount has increased from $.64 cents to $.81cents per dollar contributed. That means members who received checks from the state this summer will see an extra check covering the difference.

This program is a lifeline for dedicated education workers who struggle to pay rent and bills during the summer months when work is not available. The Summer Bridge Program allows members to contribute to the fund during the school year, and the state matches back member contributions.

The Summer Bridge Fund was won through our united action. And it’s through our organizing and political activism that we continue to improve the program every year.
