Plaza Community Services Workers Join SEIU Local 99 Family!

We’re thrilled to welcome the early education workers of Plaza Community Services (PCS) to our Local 99 family. PCS employees passed a union authorization card check with overwhelming majority support!

This comes after months of organizing, and a Neutrality Agreement between SEIU 99 and Plaza management passed in October that allowed workers the freedom to form their union without interference from management. Under the terms of the agreement, Plaza management agreed to:

  • Remain neutral throughout the organizing process
  • Refrain from anti-union activity
  • Avoid the bureaucracy of a formal election process, and respect the outcome of a majority sign-up process

Plaza Community Services is the first employer we’ve seen commit to a fast and fair way for workers to choose union representation!

Not only is this a huge win for Plaza workers, but it also sets a powerful precedent in our work to organize other publicly funded childcare centers across Los Angeles County.

Here’s what Jackie Hernandez, a Preschool Teacher at Plaza has to say about joining our union:

“Being part of a union will empower us to speak up, improve collaboration, and encourage a more stable + respectful environment across worksites, especially as we get ready to expand our services to South Gate.”
