Governor Newsom: Invest in Child Care in the State Budget!
Last week, Governor Newsom released his May Revision state budget proposal (learn more about the process). Even with an additional $16.5 billion in revenue outlined in this revised budget proposal, the Governor has proposed reducing our cost-of-living adjustment while many of us worry about keeping our doors open.
Governor Newsom claims he supports providers and values our profession. His budget proposal tells a different story. So, Local 99 providers came together to march, picket, and ask:
Governor Newsom, which side are you on?

“A year ago, I was paying $100-$150 to fill my van with a tank of gas. Now it costs me up to $350 dollars,” said Ana Valentino, a child care provider of 26 years based in the San Fernando Valley.
Child care providers are the backbone of California, the fourth largest economy in the world.
We know the support we provide to parents is an essential piece of enabling Californians to work and contribute to our state’s prosperity. And yet, we are stuck with salaries based on the State of California’s formula from the 1980s.
It doesn’t make any sense, because when we pay for groceries, educational supplies, utilities, and gasoline, we are paying 2026 prices.
Join child care providers across California right now by calling Governor Newsom and telling him that child care providers — and the families we serve — cannot wait for him to fulfill his promises.
