Just a month later, members at LAUSD stood ready to strike — and won a historic contract that raised standards for school districts across Southern California. 

Now, SMMUSD workers are standing strong once again to win the fair wage increases, we deserve. 

Whenever workers organize and make progress, there are always attempts to create fear, doubt, and division. But our power has always come from standing united and focusing on the facts. 

The Facts Are On Our Side 

SMMUSD has the resources to invest in workers and students. 

The district currently holds nearly $60 million in reserves yet continues to claim there is no money available for meaningful raises. 

At the same time, anti-worker groups are trying to distract workers with fear about a doomsday future instead of addressing the real issue happening right now: workers are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. 

The problem is not paying workers a living wage. 

School workers deserve respect, stability, and wages that allow us to support our families and continue serving students and our communities.
