SEIU Local 99 met with the district for our first bargaining session since May 28th. One thing was made painstakingly clear: the district was NOT prepared to reach an agreement.  

The District had four months to prepare proposals. But instead of addressing our core priorities of: 

• Increased hours 

• Expanded healthcare access 

• Living wages 

• An end to Subcontracting 

The district is stalling! Instead of moving forward to reach an agreement, the District presented new proposals and discussed footwear. They also failed to respond to any of our proposals. And did not return to bargaining after taking a break. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! STOP THE STALLING, SMMUSD!

We are ready to bargain and ready to settle a fair contract. The district must come to the table prepared to do the same. Our next bargaining session is September 16th, 2026. We will not let up until we win the fair contract that meets our demands!

The district tried to shut us down at the last board meeting. Let’s show up in an even bigger force. We will not stop fighting until SMMUSD addresses our workplace issues and negotiates a strong contract.
