LAUSD Transportation Drivers Labor Management Committee Report Back – August 27, 2026
SEIU Local 99 members working in transportation as bus drivers met with Los Angeles Unified School District representatives on August 27th to raise issues related to equipment, logistics, subcontractors and more.
The next two Labor Management Committee meetings are scheduled for September 15th and October 20th.
Equipment
SEIU Local 99 members urged management to make progress on providing the following items:
- Spare Buses: drivers have asked about status and availability of spare buses.
- Management next steps: gather additional information regarding spare buses and follow up with a detailed update.
- Radio Guidance & Usage: drivers need clear instructions and reference materials for radio operation.
- Management will look into providing supplementary reference materials for future driver use. Until then, management asks drivers to consult the existing radio guide.
- Tablet Technical Failures on Routes: drivers have had issues with tablets frequently turning off during active routes, logging drivers out of critical student and parent information.
- Management next steps: giving drivers the instruction to safely pull over immediately and contact dispatch for assistance should a tablet shut off while on route.
- Zum Tablets Data Transfer & Privacy Concerns: drivers have had issues with tablets failing to transfer over student and parent details, such as names, phone numbers, addresses, and private information.
- Management next steps: follow up on system issues with the tablets to prevent recurrence.
- San Fernando Valley Uniform Vendor & Boot Vouchers: drivers have requested that the District use at least one-District approved uniform vendor located in the San Fernando Valley per the contract; as well as updates on boot vouchers.
- Management will meet with the Labor team and the SEIU Local 99 Bargaining team to review the contract language. Management has already requested funding for the boot voucher program which is currently pending formal approval by the School Board.
- LAUSD Identification Badges: drivers have been making requests for official LAUSD badges which are still outstanding.
- Management next steps: Ms. Duarte confirmed receipt of badge requests and will be dispatching them as each submitted request is processed.
Logistics
SEIU Local 99 members requested the following logistical concerns to be resolved:
- Shuttling Between Van Nuys and Tuxford Yards: drivers have had issues regarding driver shuttling between the Van Nuys and Tuxford yards.
- Management next steps: review and follow up on the Daily Bus Reports (DBRs) for all drivers utilizing the yard shuttles.
- Adjustment of Driver Time Post-Arrival (4-Hour Minimum): drivers have been concerned about driver time being backed up after arriving at the yard.
- Management next steps: Ms. Roellig (HR) will review the governing contract language and report back.
- Assistants Directing Key Turns / Sign-On Times: drivers have had issues with assistants instructing them to turn their ignition keys based on specified sign-on times.
- Management next steps: after acknowledging the issue, management will address the concern internally.
- Standardization of Terminal Process for DBRs Across Regions: members have been requesting a clear, uniform terminal process for handling Daily Bus Reports (DBRs) across all regions.
- Management next steps: develop a more efficient process to streamline DBR handling across all regions.
