Solidarity Wins Strong Agreement for SEIU Local 99 Members at Torrance Unified School District

Solidarity Wins Strong Agreement for SEIU Local 99 Members at Torrance Unified School District

Coalition building and collective action deliver wage gains, stronger health care, and important wins for part-time and cafeteria workers

SEIU Local 99 members at Torrance Unified School District (TUSD) are taking a major step forward with a tentative agreement that provides wage increases, increased health care contributions,

This agreement is the result of collective action and coalition building with our partner unions. By standing together, showing up at School Board meetings, wearing purple, speaking out, and putting pressure on the Board and Superintendent, workers demonstrated that TUSD must invest in the employees who keep our schools running.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • An ongoing 3.18% salary increase across SEIU Local 99 salary schedules, retroactive to July 1, 2026
  • Additional employer health and welfare contributions, providing more relief as the cost of health care continues to rise
  • A $12,410 annual health and welfare contribution for eligible 1.00 FTE SEIU Local 99 members for the 2026–27 plan year
  • An agreement that provides more employer support for a higher employer contribution to provide relief for workers who work less than eight hours. The less hours they work, the more the district will pay for benefits.
  • In June of this year, we won more hours for cafeteria workers, which included the establishment of a minimum four-hour workday, which provides access to health care benefits and access to the PERS pension.

We also ensured to continue negotiations on the last year of our three-year agreement 2027–28 school year on wages, health and welfare benefits, hours and overtime, grievances, holidays, leaves, union rights, and additional articles.

These gains matter at a time when workers are facing rising costs for housing, groceries, transportation, and health care. This agreement provides meaningful relief while keeping us in the fight for more.

But before the agreement can take effect, SEIU Local 99 members must vote to ratify it.
