SMMUSD Must Stop Stalling and Reach a Fair Contract Now!
The SEIU Local 99 bargaining team came to the table ready to reach a fair agreement on September 16, but SMMUSD is still refusing to move on the issues that matter most to members:
- More hours
- Expanded healthcare access
- Ending subcontracting
- Paying living wages
Over four months and two bargaining sessions, the district came prepared only to claim that cafeteria workers don't deserve more hours because it "only takes 15 minutes" to feed every student And to distract us with rules against flip-flops & sandals
We're FED UP with the DISRESPECT! Enough is ENOUGH.
Members are angry, and we have every right to be. We keep schools running every day, yet the District continues to drag its feet instead of respecting our work and moving towards the fair contract we deserve.
SMMUSD needs to stop playing games at the bargaining table and get serious about reaching an agreement!.
On September 17, SEIU Local 99 members from Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District took that anger and mobilized at the SMMUSD school board meeting demanding the District stop stalling, bargain in good faith & reach a fair contract NOW!
On top of contract delays, members are also facing real issues affecting their pay! Stop the delay of these "so-called payroll errors" and pay members who have been waiting for over 6 months for payroll fixes!
If that wasn't enough, members also have to deal with unsafe working conditions which include workplace violence, bullying, and unlawful surveillance in break rooms.
End the nonsense, fix the issues, respect the workers, and let's reach a fair contract now!
