Restricted LAUSD Workers: Get Your Evaluation Completed Before October 31

Restricted LAUSD Workers: Get Your Evaluation Completed Before October 31

If you are a current LAUSD worker under “restricted status,” you must take action now to protect your job.

LAUSD has informed SEIU Local 99 that eligible restricted employees can be evaluated for promotion to permanent status. Your principal must complete and submit your Promotability Evaluation by October 31.

Go to Your Principal ASAP

Do not wait for your principal to come to you.

Ask your principal to complete the Google Form LAUSD sent to their inbox for your Promotability Evaluation. Remind them that it must be submitted by the October 31 deadline.

If your principal or administrator says they already have an evaluation on file for you, ask for a copy and confirm with the Personnel Commission (PC) that it has been received and processed. Don’t assume it has been completed.

Why Your Evaluation Matters

Restricted employees do not have the same protections as permanent employees. Restricted employees:

  • Do not accumulate seniority.
  • May not have the same rights when it comes to additional hours, transfers, or bumping.
  • Are more vulnerable when layoffs occur.

Workers can move out of restricted employment after working 130 days or 600 hours, whichever is longer, and successfully completing their Promotability Evaluation.

You must receive an “Acceptable” rating in all sections to have your restriction removed. If you pass, you will receive an email from the Personnel Commission stating that your assignment will be updated to reflect your permanent status. If you do not pass, you are eligible to be re-evaluated after four months.

We’ve Already Seen What Happens When LAUSD Fails to Evaluate Workers

Last school year, LAUSD unlawfully terminated approximately 600 restricted workers who were eligible to move into permanent status. Many had worked for the District for years but had never received the evaluations needed to remove their restricted status.

SEIU Local 99 continues to fight these unlawful terminations through a grievance now in arbitration, while also pursuing legal action against the District.

We have already seen the consequences when LAUSD fails to evaluate eligible restricted workers. Don’t let the District’s failure to complete your evaluation put your job at risk.

Take Action Before October 31

Go to your principal now and demand that your Promotability Evaluation be completed and submitted before October 31.

If your principal refuses to complete your evaluation, you have trouble confirming it was submitted, or you have questions about your restricted status, contact the SEIU Local 99 Member Resource Center at 213-637-0296.
