March 3 | November 3
This year isn’t just another election year.
We are at a pivotal moment in the fight for quality public education, for racial, immigrant, economic and environmental justice, and the fight for all working people to have a union and a voice in local and national politics. Who we elect to office matters.
Learn more about the elections our union is involved in, the candidates SEIU Local 99 members have endorsed, and how you can be part of the change.
U.S. Presidential Race
SEIU members are fighting for unions for all. We’re committed to building an economy and a democracy that works for everyone. We will support and elect the presidential candidate whose platform and ideas best aligns with our vision for working families in America.
LAUSD School Board
Four LAUSD School Board seats are contested in the Tuesday, March 3 Primary Election. SEIU Local 99 members have endorsed Dr. George McKenna (Board District 1), Scott Schmerelson (Board District 3), Jackie Goldberg (Board District 5), and Patricia Castellanos (Board District 7).
Compton School Board
SEIU Local 99 members support two incumbents for Compton School Board—Micah Ali and Charles Davis. They share a deep commitment to the Compton community and quality schools. We know they’ll deliver for students, school workers, and families.
L.A. District Attorney
The school-to-prison pipeline is an injustice to low-income communities of color. California spends way more money on prisons than on education. Together—with George Gascón, who’s running for Los Angeles District Attorney—we’re saying enough is enough! The most important DA race in the country is going to be right here in L.A.
Throughout 2019, SEIU Members across California gathered at regional town halls to hear from candidates for district office, statewide office, and Congress. They also learned about proposed ballot measures and the impact they would have on workers and local communities. At the end of this process, members endorsed candidates who they believe will fight for our right to a union, fair compensation, and stronger communities, and measures that help us all move forward.
