After members pushed back on LACCD’s initial actions in March, we continue to have extensive engagement with LACCD management. LACCD notified our union that they plan to begin a partial reopening as soon as July 27 to resume some in-person instruction to complete Spring 2020 semester courses which were hard to convert to an on-line [...]
In July, our union sent all employers a demand to bargain over their plans for returning to school and any changes they plan to make due to COVID-19. All of our negotiations with employers are being guided by our Principles for Reopening Schools. Here is an update on our discussions with employers
“Regardless of where teaching is happening, we must focus on creating the conditions that students need to learn.”
Unless Governor Gavin Newsom and the state legislature take immediate action to dedicate additional funds to school districts to implement social distancing protocols, proper PPE for all, training, testing and other safety measures, it will be almost impossible for classroom instruction to safely resume in the fall.
After months of talks with the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and actions that included a one-day work stoppage for PPE and several speak-outs at board meetings, members have reached an agreement with LACCD.
